Are You on a Mission?

Being productive isn't the same as having direction.

You can be busy, productive, and ticking things off every day — and still not be going anywhere particularly useful.

I’ve been thinking about the word mission, and whether giving something that label actually changes how we approach it.

In this episode, I explore the difference between movement and direction, why a mission doesn’t need to be enormous or lifelong, and how my experience with cancer gave me a very personal reason to keep going.

I also look at the relationship between purpose, mission and action, what the research suggests about having a sense of purpose, and why turning absolutely everything into a mission might be a terrible idea.

Because sometimes sitting in the sun doing absolutely nothing is perfectly reasonable too.

The question is: Are you on a mission right now? And what’s it actually for?
